Are Taxes and Customs Charges Included in a Cross-Border Checkout Total?

How to interpret the checkout total and respond to a later customs or carrier payment request for a SEWARD order.

What the checkout amount covers

Under SEWARD’s current standard arrangement, customers should not be required to pay additional delivery-related charges beyond the order amount. The Shipping & Delivery page describes standard postal delivery as free and states that SEWARD does not add standard shipping, remote-area, or routine parcel-handling charges under that arrangement.

Before paying, review the item, delivery address, currency code, shipping line, and final total shown at checkout. This matters because a currency symbol alone may be ambiguous, while a bank conversion or card-provider charge is separate from a store delivery charge. Save the order summary so that any later request can be compared with the amount and terms originally presented.

Do not treat the policy as a universal tax exemption

The standard arrangement does not establish that every destination has no customs rules or taxes. Customs processing can affect an international shipment, and delivery options may vary by item and destination. The relevant question is whether a requested payment belongs to the SEWARD arrangement for the actual order, not whether cross-border charges can never exist anywhere.

If checkout displays a charge that conflicts with the published standard arrangement, ask SEWARD to review the item, destination, and checkout evidence before paying. An order placed through another seller or under a separately agreed service cannot automatically be assessed under SEWARD’s standard terms.

If a separate payment notice arrives

Do not assume that a carrier or customs message is valid, and do not pay it merely because it mentions your parcel. SEWARD’s Shipping & Delivery page instructs customers to contact SEWARD when a carrier or customs notice requests a separate payment so the request can be verified and handled.

Use the official Contact Us page and provide the order number, the email used at checkout, the destination, and a redacted copy of the notice. Do not include passwords, full payment-card details, security codes, banking passwords, or one-time verification codes. Wait for confirmation tied to the actual order before sending additional money.
