What to Check When a Refund Is Lower Than the Original Order Total

Compare the order, approved resolution, refund confirmation, and payment-account credit before deciding why a refund is smaller than expected.

Start with a like-for-like comparison

Do not compare the refund only with the final order total. Reconstruct the original charge by recording the item prices, quantity, discounts, shipping, taxes, currency, and any separate payment-provider charge shown in your records. Then identify which item or issue SEWARD approved for refund. A refund for one item in a multi-item order may properly differ from the total order charge, but that conclusion requires an itemized explanation rather than an assumption.

Check the policy against the stated calculation

SEWARD’s Refunds & Returns page says an eligible issue may be resolved by a replacement or a refund, depending on the case and availability. It also states that, when an item was normal and shipped correctly, shipping costs are not refunded under the commercial policy unless the law requires otherwise. By contrast, where the issue is SEWARD’s error involving a defective or incorrectly shipped item, the policy says reasonable return or reshipment costs are covered, or another resolution may be offered without a return.

These rules help frame the review, but they do not establish the calculation for a particular order. Check the approval message for the refunded item, quantity, shipping treatment, discounts, and any expressly identified deduction. Do not infer that an unexplained shortfall is valid or unlawful.

Request a reconciliation when figures differ

Compare three records: the original order summary, SEWARD’s refund confirmation, and the amount posted by the original payment provider. Confirm that all three use the same currency. If the figures still differ, contact SEWARD with the order number and ask for an itemized reconciliation showing the approved refund amount and how it was calculated. If SEWARD’s processed amount matches its explanation but the posted credit differs, ask the bank or payment provider to explain its record. Share transaction references where appropriate, but never send passwords or full card details.

Does a lower refund automatically mean that a fee was deducted?

No. It could reflect a partial refund, a component excluded under the applicable resolution, or a payment-side difference. The records must be reconciled before identifying the cause.
