How to Check Whether an Unfamiliar Name on the Delivery Record Means Misdelivery

How to interpret an unfamiliar recipient name and verify the delivery location before alleging misdelivery or fraud.

A different name is a reason to investigate, not a verdict

An unfamiliar name on a delivery record does not, by itself, prove that the parcel was stolen or delivered to the wrong address. It may refer to a household member, receptionist, building employee, neighbor, mailroom entry, carrier notation, or another receiving arrangement. Equally, it may reveal a genuine mismatch. The meaning must be checked against the delivery location and authorization records rather than inferred from the name alone.

Compare the records carefully

Save the full tracking history, recipient entry, signature image if available, delivery photograph, date and time, and tracking number. Compare the order address with the carrier’s recorded delivery point and any instructions attached to the shipment. Privately ask household members or an authorized reception point whether they recognize the name or accepted the parcel. Avoid publishing the unfamiliar name, signature, full address, or other personal information while seeking help.

Ask for clarification, then request seller support

Ask the carrier what the name field means in its system, where the parcel was recorded as delivered, and whether the record identifies a direct recipient, substitute recipient, or delivery location. Request the available proof of delivery without asserting fraud before the facts are known.

For a SEWARD order, use the Contact Us page and choose Orders and delivery. Include the order number, email used at checkout, tracking number, unfamiliar entry, and a concise summary of the checks already completed. Do not provide passwords or full payment-card details. SEWARD’s public Shipping and Delivery information describes the standard delivery arrangement, but it cannot establish the facts of a particular handoff. Whether misdelivery occurred, and what remedy may apply, depends on the original address, carrier proof, authorization, buyer’s account, and seller policy. A third-party seller may use a different review process.
