How to Tell an Order Confirmation from a Promotional Email

Use transaction details and the original purchasing channel to distinguish a genuine order record from marketing email.

Look for a transaction record, not just familiar branding

A genuine order confirmation should correspond to a purchase you actually attempted. Examine whether the message identifies an order number and summarizes the purchased items, quantities, delivery details, currency, total, and payment status. Then compare those details with the final checkout page and any order record available through the original purchasing channel.

A logo, polished layout, familiar sender name, or subject line containing the word “order” is not enough on its own. Promotional messages can mention products, discounts, carts, or limited-time offers without documenting a completed transaction. Conversely, an acknowledgment may record that an order was received without proving payment confirmation or dispatch. SEWARD’s Shipping and Delivery page expressly distinguishes acknowledgment from dispatch.

Verify safely when the message is uncertain

Do not use an unexpected payment button or link to resolve uncertainty. Open the seller’s website using an address you already trust and check the corresponding order there. Compare the order number, item summary, amount, currency, checkout email, and timing across the records. A message that cannot be matched to the original checkout requires verification rather than assumption.

For a SEWARD purchase, the Contact Us page says order inquiries should include the order number and email used at checkout. Contact the company through that official page if the records disagree, and never send a full card number, security code, banking password, or one-time verification code by email, chat, or a contact form. For an order placed with a third-party seller, verification must instead follow that seller’s official channel and policies. Without the actual message and order record, no individual email can be conclusively classified.
